"Solstice" - Acrylic on Wood Panel - 12" x 24" - 2012–2017

This small painting was done from sketches begun in 2012. The subject is a grouping of barns at a large dairy farm on the border of Phelps and Arcadia, NY, about 15 miles from Charles’s home. In February 2014, he was stricken with the sudden onset of severe carpal tunnel syndrome in his left hand and arm. Charles say that, “after four major surgeries in 3 years, the painful electrical sensations have largely subsided, and I’m once again able to do the stationary ballet required for easel painting.” Following several years on a studio shelf, this piece exploring winter light was completed in 2017.
